Scottish police officers will hold an emergency debate on whether more of their number should carry guns later today.

The discussion, at the Scottish Police Federation's annual conference, follows the terror attack in Westminster last week when four people were killed, including PC Keith Palmer.

The attacker, Khalid Masood, was shot by armed guards.

Armed police were deployed across Scotland following the attack, which has led to questions over whether officers should routinely carry firearms at high-risk locations such as the Scottish Parliament.

Police Scotland currently has around 360 armed officers.
