School girl in serious condition after being hit by car in Rutherglen

A 12 year old girl is in hospital with serious head injuries after being hit by a car in Rutherglen yesterday afternoon.

A 12 year old girl is in hospital with serious head injuries after being hit by a car in Rutherglen yesterday afternoon.

It happened as she crossed Rodger Drive at ten past four.

The person driving the Vauxhall Astra wasn't hurt.

Police are asking anyone who saw it happen to get in touch

Sergeant David Stenhouse, Motherwell Road Policing Unit, said:

“The girl was with some friends and all were walking north along Broomieknowe Road leading to Rodger Drive, however, as she stepped out to cross the road at the junction she was struck by the Astra car.

“Although there were a number of people at the scene, we are still keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the crash.”
