Sam Heughan, Frankie Boyle, Paul Black, Travis and Greg McHugh are among Scottish stars who have made donations to a silent auction for Garnetbank Primary School in Glasgow.

It is home to a high number of children living below the poverty line and in temporary accommodation who are in need of extra support.

The celebrities have donated rare memorabilia with more than 100 prizes on offer including virtual cocktails with Alan Cumming, drinks with Ian Rankin at the Oxford Bar and tickets to see the band Mogwai perform.

Comedian Frankie Boyle is also making a donation to the silent auction.

Garnetbank parent and Mogwai guitarist, Barry Burns, said: "The auction site reads like a who’s who of the country's best creative talent and the memorabilia and prizes available are truly fantastic."

The staff and the parent council are working together to help every child in need and it is hoped that at least ÂŁ10,000 will be raised to help them buy essential supplies.

Emma Ford sits on the parent council and told Clyde 1: "We are hoping the cash will allow us to create an emergency fund for families in crisis.

"It could be for school snacks or emergency bags with clothing and toiletries.

"All of our own fundraising efforts have not really been enough to generate the money we really need and that is why we are so pleased the celebrities have been so generous."

There are 37 different languages in the school alone and 78% of the pupils experience English as their second language.

Parents have already donated old school uniforms and the school has also been given a supply of mobile phone sim cards and outdoor clothing to help struggling families this winter.

Head teacher Linda Reed said: "The funds our parent volunteers raise will go a long way toward enriching our pupils overall learning experience and for that, we are hugely grateful."
