Ryanair to close Glasgow Airport base
Airline bosses confirmed the number of flights from the west coast will be cut from 23 to 3
Ryanair is to close its Glasgow Airport base, with more than 300 jobs expected to go.
The budget airline made the announcement at a press conference in Edinburgh, citing changes to the cost of air passenger duty and uncertainty over Brexit.
Chief commercial officer David O’Brien confirmed that the 23 routes currently flying from Glasgow will be reduced to 3, with a number of flights moving to Edinburgh Airport.
Existing routes to Dublin, Krakov and Wroclaw will be retained, with the changes expected from November 2018.
The airline had previously hit the headlines after it cancelled all of its flights between Scotland and London until March after a pilot mix-up.
Ryanair admitted that it had to scrap more than 2,000 flights across the UK after issues surrounding staff annual leave.
