Pensioner killed in Rutherglen crash named

It happened on Mill Street at the junction with Kings Park Avenue

The family of a man who died after a car crash said they had been "devasted" by his loss.

Michael McManamon (73) from Glasgow died after a Mercedes C220 was involved in a crash with a Ford Mondeo on Friday, 18 November.

The incident happened shortly before midnight on Mill Street at the junction with Kings Park Avenue.

Mr McManamon was the passenger in the Mercedes C220.

The 80-year-old male driver was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he died a short time later.

The 34-year-old male driver of the Ford Mondeo wasn't injured and has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Mr McManamon’s family said : "We are devastated at the loss of our much loved dad, papa and friend. He will be sorely missed but we are comforted by the messages from the community, who valued his help and friendship over the many years".

Sergeant Gemma Blackadder, Lanarkshire Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts remain with both deceased’s family and friends.

“Our enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances and I would urge anyone who may be able to help and who hasn’t yet spoken to police to get in touch.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 4274 of 18 November.”
