Man slashed in Renfrew street attack

A couple were attacked on Ferguson Street on Saturday afternoon

Police in Renfrew are hunting two men who slashed a man across the forehead in the street in broad daylight.

The incident happened on Ferguson Street at around 5.45pm on Saturday, 5 June, 2021 when the 51-year-old man and 48-year-old woman, were assaulted by two unknown men who ran off into Robertson Park.

The man was slashed to the forehead and the woman was struck to the face causing severe bruising and swelling.

Both were taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital for treatment and then released.

The two suspects were captured on CCTV before the incident having a row with another couple at a taxi rank on Hairst Street.

Suspect description

The first man is described as early 30's, around 5ft 10in tall, of a stocky build with short blonde hair and was was wearing a white polo shirt, tracksuit bottoms and white trainers. The other man is described as mid 20's, around 5ft 8in tall, of a slim build with short dark hair and was wearing a grey tracksuit top and bottoms and trainers.

Detective Constable Liam Rodgers of Paisley CID said: “This was a frightening experience for the two people involved and we are keen to trace the men responsible as soon as possible.

“We are aware that the men were involved in a verbal altercation with a couple at a taxi rank prior to the incident on Hairst Street and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen this.

“Likewise, anyone who was on Ferguson Street at the time of the assault and has not yet spoken to police please contact us.

“Finally I would appeal to anyone with any further information or who may recognise the description of the two men to call officers as soon as you can.”
