Re-appeal after unexplained death near a Glasgow canal

Police have issued a fresh appeal for information about the death of a woman beside a Glasgow canal.

The body of 56 year-odl Alison McAllister, from the Summerston area of the city, was discovered at the Forth and Clyde Canal, near to Cleveden Road, Maryhill, at about 1.30pm on Tuesday, March 20.

Her death is being treated as unexplained.

Police Scotland Detective Inspector Craig McPhail said there had been an encouraging response from the public but officers still wanted to speak to anyone with information on Ms McAllister's movements on the evening of Monday March 19.

She was seen around 5.20pm that day near Asda in Summerston before driving off in her blue Vauxhall Mokka car.

The last believed sighting of her was at the canal bank near Cleveden Road around 6.30pm.

Mr McPhail said: "I am appealing to anyone who was in that area after 5pm on Monday March 19 who may have seen her, or have information that will assist our investigation.

"It is important that we narrow the timescales to establish the exact circumstances surrounding her death.

"Officers are continuing to carry our door to door enquiries and study CCTV footage in an effort to gather further information.''

Ms McAllister was around 5ft and slim with short reddish brown hair.
