There is a re-appeal for information after the body of Glasgow man John Connolly was found in the water at Speirs Wharf in Glasgow on Monday 22 July.

Detectives believe John may have been involved in an incident resulting in him being injured. He was seen socialising in the city centre on 15 July 2019, a week before his body was found and spotted on CCTV walking on Buchanan Street around 10pm, walking past the Bus Station and Buchanan Galleries.

He is also seen walking on Sauchiehall Street and West Nile Street. Around 10:10pm, John stops outside a property in Renfrew Street before walking off where he is seen again in Dundasvale Court.

Officers believe that John was in the underpass at Garscube Road leading to Speirs Wharf in the Cowcaddens area around 10:20 where he was seen on CCTV.

Officers believe he has potentially been involved in an incident at this location where he sustained injuries to his head and body. At that time, John was wearing a black Adidas hooded top, with white stripes down the sleeves, black jogging trousers and royal blue coloured Nike trainers.

Detective Inspector John Morrison said:

“It’s important we establish exactly what happened to John before his death. He was socialising in the city centre between the hours of 8pm and 10pm. We know that he was in the underpass at Garscube Road and we believe this is where the incident occurred resulting in him being injured. I am appealing to anyone who saw John that night to contact us. You may not realise that what you saw or know is significant but let us be the judge of that. Your information could be vital in helping us piece together exactly what happened to John.

He continued:

“This area of Garscube Road at Speirs Wharf is popular with the community, it is used by runners, dog walkers and skateboarders and I’m appealing to anyone who uses this route to think back and consider if they saw anything.”

Anyone with information is asked to call CID officers at Maryhill Police Station via 101, quoting incident number 3452 of 22 July 2019.
