Rangers are waiting to hear how much they will have to pay Sports Direct in damages after losing the latest round of a long running court battle.

The club could potentially be forced to replace millions in lost revenue in their fight over merchandise rights.

Rangers entered a deal with Elite/Hummel last year to produce replica kits, but a legal judgement found Mike Ashley's firm should have been given the opportunity to match that offer.

Judge Lionel Persey QC has been overseeing a series of hearings at the High Court in London, with his full ruling published yesterday.

He said: "I am satisfied that SDIR would have matched those arrangements had it been given the opportunity to do so".

He also rejected a bid by Rangers to limit any potential damages to £1million.

Judge Persey QC said, "SDIR's losses are likely to be in the order of many millions of pounds. I accept SDIR's submission that it would be unjust to deprive SDIR of the benefit of its matching rights provisions".

Rangers company secretary James Blair was said to have acted 'untruthfully' by the judge as he did not provide SDIR with a copy of the agreement with Elite/Hummel, or even notify Sports Direct that they had reached an agreement with Hummel.

A decision on the amount of damages owed will be made at a later date.
