Rangers donating £72,000 to Ukraine aid effort

Rangers FC says at least £72,000 will be donated to the aid effort in Ukraine.
The club says the money will be given by men’s and women’s first-team players, management staff and directors.
The donation will be made via the Rangers Charity Foundation and then split between UNICEF’s Ukraine Emergency Appeal and DEC’s Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal.
It is in addition to £15,000 which was donated to the UNICEF Ukraine Emergency Appeal earlier this month.
Donating part of wages
Managing Director, Stewart Robertson commented, “As we celebrate our 150th anniversary season, we are mindful of the role a club of Rangers size and stature can play across Europe.
“As a club, we were keen to provide assistance to people in Ukraine, who are suffering at this time. We extend our thoughts to everyone impacted and hope that our donation will, in some way, help at this traumatic time.”
Manager Giovanni Van Bronckhorst said: “The management staff and players were all extremely keen to support the Ukraine Appeal in any way we could.
“The conflict is causing so much hurt to so many people who are losing loved ones, fleeing their homes and trying to find safety.
“We hope that by donating some of our wages from March, we can play a small part in the wider efforts of helping the people most affected.
Rangers captain James Tavernier added: “As a squad we believed it was important to do what we can to help support the many children and their families that are in need in Ukraine.
“An unimaginable number of people are being affected by this conflict and it is crucial that services continue to be available to them when they need them most.
“We are fortunate to be in a position to be able to support this appeal and hope it can go a small way in allowing these charities to continue their vital work.”
Women and Girls Football Manager, Amy McDonald commented, “I am very proud that the players, staff and directors have united to help those in need.
“The women’s team were very keen to commit and support this important cause. As a club, we stand together in support of Ukraine.”
