A Rangers fan has been jailed for four months for his part in the pitch invasion at the end of the Scottish Cup final earlier this year. Season ticket holder David MacDonald, 50, admitted jumping over an advertising barrier and made his way on to the pitch after the final whistle had blown. He gesticulated at Hibs fans after their 3-2 win and tried to start a fight with one of them, before he himself was knocked to the ground. The court heard he confronted an individual for a few seconds before being punched. At Glasgow Sheriff Court, sheriff Aisha Anwar told him: “Your conduct on May 21, however you may choose to justify it, was deplorable. “The shameful images of what occurred during the football match were replayed across the world.” She jailed MacDonald - who has 20 previous convictions - for four months and handed him an 18 month football banning order. The court heard that when MacDonald made his way on to the pitch he gesticulated at Hibs fans to fight with him and attempted to hit one man. He was punched to the ground, cutting his head and knocked unconscious before being helped by a first aider. MacDonald was later traced to his Royston home and arrested by police weeks after the game when his picture was passed to them.
