Psychoactive substance dealer from Knightswood jailed

A 53 year old man has been jailed for three and a half years after being caught with more than £100,000 worth of psychoactive substances. Colin Stewart was detained by police in November 2016 in relation to another matter when he admitted being in possession of what he told them was a “legal high”

A search revealed that he was carrying 20 packets of a psychoactive substance and cash.

Search warrants were subsequently sought and his home address and car were searched and police discovered in excess of 7,500 packets of psychoactive substance. The vast majority was hidden under the loft insulation and the weight of the total haul was in excess of 10kg.

In addition they found a quantity of cocaine as well as cash in a mixture of currencies including Sterling, US Dollars and Ukrainian Hyrvnia.

As well as his prison sentence, Colin Stewart is the subject of Proceeds of Crime proceedings which will seek to confiscate any profits of criminal activity.

Speaking after the sentencing at Glasgow Sheriff Court, Fraser Gibson, Procurator Fiscal, said: “With the introduction of the Psychoactive Substances Act 2016 we were able to prevent Colin Stewart dealing in these harmful products.

“Using all of the tools at our disposal we will continue to work with the police and other agencies to keep communities safe from harm, and prosecute those who seek to profit from crime.

“With each case of this kind we can help reduce the exposure to drugs of any kind and the harm they cause to young and vulnerable people in communities across Scotland.''
