A logo created by a Duntocher primary school pupil will represent Clydebank’s 130th anniversary celebrations.

Mia Borthwick’s creative drawing showing both the rich heritage and modern aspects of Clydebank has been picked as the winning logo for the 130th anniversary of the town.

St Mary’s pupil Mia’s drawing shows the Titan Crane, Singer Sewing Machine, the QE2 on the Clyde and the Town Hall clock - four historic and iconic landmarks which have made the town famous the world over.

Carleith Primary pupil, Kate Austin’s drawing of the Singer clock and two planes and St Stephen’s Primary pupil, Mathew Monaghan’s drawing of the Titan Crane were both runners up in the competition.

Mia’s design will now be printed onto commemorative mugs and given to everyone in her class and used on promotional material relating to anniversary events.

Provost Douglas McAllister said: “Congratulations to Mia for designing such a wonderful, eye-catching design that highlights the heritage we are so proud of in our town.

"Our pupils gave us a really tough job to select just one winner as each logo was well designed and really told the story of the rich history of Clydebank. It is important for pupils to be aware of our heritage and this competition has helped raise awareness of our proud past.

"I am delighted Mia’s logo will be used to represent Clydebank on all future promotional work relating to the anniversary.”

Councillor Michelle McGinty, the Council’s Educational Services Convener, added: “We had a fantastic response from our schools and it was great to see the range of drawings from our very talented P5 pupils. I’m sure Mia, and her family are very proud that her drawing will be used by the Council to commemorate this historic milestone for Clydebank.”
