Possible Gunshots Heard In Riddrie, Police Say

Police are appealling for information after receiving reports of gunshots in Riddrie just after 10 o’clock last night.

The incident is believed to have taken place in Riddrie Knowes where nearby residents heard loud bangs.

A dark coloured jeep style vehicle was seen driving off at speed towards Smithycroft Road at Cumbernauld Road around the same time. A silver coloured vehicle believed to possibly be a Vauxhall Astra was also seen reversing away from Riddrie Knowes.

A short time later police discovered a black Nissan Qashqai on fire in Eden lane, Riddrie. There was nobody within the vehicle.

Detective Inspector David Stewart at Shettleston Police Office said: “Enquiries are underway to establish the circumstances surrounding last night’s events.

Officers, including specialised search and forensic teams are in the area to speak to local residents and to establish whether a firearm had actually been discharged.

“At this time we have not received any reports of anyone being injured however I’d like to reassure those living in the area that a full search of the surrounding area will be carried out.

“Meantime, I urge anyone who has seen either a black Qashqai or silver coloured vehicle in the Riddrie area between 2200 hrs and 2215 hrs to contact police immediately.
