Police watchdog to investigate after 14 year-old injured during arrest in Cumbernauld

An arrest that allegedly left a 14-year-old boy with a head injury is being investigated by Scotland's policing watchdog.

An arrest that allegedly left a 14-year-old boy with a head injury is being investigated by Scotland's policing watchdog.

The youngster was detained in Cumbernauld in July and reportedly suffered a serious but not life-threatening injury while he was being apprehended.

A PIRC spokesman said: "The Police Investigations & Review Commissioner (PIRC) is undertaking an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the arrest of a 14-year-old boy in Cumbernauld on 21 July 2017.

The Crown Office has asked the Police Investigations and Review to examine the incident

"The matter has been referred to the PIRC by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) and a report on the Commissioner's findings will be submitted to the COPFS in due course.
