Woman killed in Motherwell after collision with police van

A double investigation has been launched into the incident

A woman’s died after being knocked down by a police van in Motherwell.

The 58-year-old pedestrian died of her injuries in hospital in Wishaw following the incident on Merry Street just after 8.20pm on Sunday, 19th September

The marked Ford Transit van was on routine duties at the time of the incident and did not have blue lights or sirens activated.

Double investigation

The incident is now being investigated by Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit and it has also has been referred to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner.

Neither of the two police officers who were inside were injured.

Sergeant John Tait, of the Road Policing Unit in Motherwell, said: “Our enquiries into this incident are ongoing and I would urge anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who has any other information to come forward.

“We would be particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam or private CCTV footage from the area.

“Anyone with information can call 101, quoting incident 3309 of 19 September.”
