The First Minister has thanked police for dispersing large crowds which gathered at Kelvingrove Park in Glasgow on Thursday evening.

Nicola Sturgeon posted a message of Twitter using Scots to "follow the rule's following the incident which saw thousands gathering, leaving the park strewn with litter afterwards.

Inspector Lesley Docherty, of Partick police office, said: "Officers attended Kelvingrove Park this evening because a large number of people were congregating in the park, mainly drinking alcohol in contravention of local byelaws.

"We stopped large groups entering the park. Two men were arrested in connection with disorder offences.''

Earlier in the day Glasgow City Council issued a warning on social media about behaviour in the park.
