A man has been left with a head injury after a "violent and unprovoked'' gang attack.

The 22-year-old was chased onto a road by a group of men and assaulted.

The victim was in a car park at the back of Marini's chip shop in Uddingston, when he was challenged by a group of men thought to be in their early 20s, standing by the Rowantree Inn.

The gang chased him onto Spindlehow Road and attacked him.

He managed to get away and ran towards Main Street where he stopped a passing car and called an ambulance.

He was taken to Monklands Hospital for treatment to a head injury following the assault at around 10.30pm on Friday March 4.

Detective Constable Leane Holmes said: "This appears to have been a violent and unprovoked attack which left the victim with a significant injury.

"I would appeal to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and witnessed what happened, or saw a group of men acting suspiciously, to get in touch.''

Meanwhile, police are hunting a man who slashed his victim in an unprovoked early hours attack.

The 42-year-old man was walking along Renfield Street in Glasgow city centre at around 12.30am on Monday when he was assaulted with a blade.

The victim was left with cuts to his face and hands and was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment before being released.

The attack happened near to British Home Stores.

The suspect is white, 6ft tall, of heavy build and was wearing a grey tracksuit top. He was last seen in West Nile Street, with a woman with long blonde hair, who was carrying a red handbag.

Detective Constable Vikki Reid said: "This would appear to be a totally unprovoked attack which has left the victim with significant injuries.

"I'd like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone who saw the suspect hanging around the vicinity before the attack took place or heading towards West Nile Street afterwards with the blonde woman.

"Enquiries have also revealed that the suspect struck another man just prior to this assault and the victim then walked off north along Sauchiehall Street. I am very keen to trace this man and ask that he contacts police immediately.''
