Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a 48 year-old man was attacked in Govanhill.

The man was walking past Coplaw Street at the junction with Langside Road when he was kicked and punched to the ground shortly before midnight on Tuesday.

The attacker then made off in the direction of Govanhill Park on foot.

The 48 year-old man was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital to receive treatment for serious injuries. He was released the following morning.

The suspect is described as a man of medium height and build who was wearing dark clothing at the time of the attack.

Detective Constable Stuart MacLennan, based at Cathcart Police Office said: “At this time, police believe this incident to be an entirely unprovoked attack on a man who was simply walking his dog. He was left with serious injuries as a consequence of this violent attack.

“We have been analysing available CCTV and conducting door to door enquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident. From what we understand, a silver car entered Coplaw Street, which causes the suspect to flee the area. I would appeal to the driver who may have witnessed the attack to come forward. You may have information that can help us identify the suspect.

“If anyone witnessed the disturbance, or witnessed a man running down Coplaw Street towards Govanhill Park on Tuesday night, please contact Detectives based at Cathcart via 101.”
