A Lanarkshire police officer is recovering in hospital after being seriously injured by a car in Hamilton on Friday.

The 33 year old had approached an Audi S3 on Low Waters Road while on patrol around 1pm on August 30, and attempted to speak to the occupants.

The car took off and hit the officer, who had to be taken for treatment at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital – his injuries are not described as life-threatening.

Police say “extensive enquiries” are ongoing to trace the car, which left the scene.

Police appeal

DI Scott Robertson said: “Our thoughts are very much with our colleague who has suffered serious injuries in this incident.

“His family are aware and we are providing them with support, as well as the other officers who have attended the scene.

“We believe this was an isolated incident and there is no wider risk to the public.

I would urge anyone who has not already spoken to police to come forward with any information that may assist us.

"I would ask any drivers with dash-cam to please check their footage and contact us if it holds information relevant to this collision.

“Anyone who can help is asked to call 101, quoting reference 1673 of 30 August.”
