Cyclists in Glasgow will be able to get a free bike safety check in the city centre today, thanks to a new initiative from Police Scotland.
Officers will be on hand on Buchannan Street in a bid to raise awareness of bicycle security and cycling in the city centre - after a spare of thefts over recent months.
Police say this is mainly down to inadequate locks being utilised to protect often high value item
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Over the recent months there have been numerous thefts of pedal bicycles from the city centre area, primarily due to inadequate locks being utilised to protect often high value items.
"This joint partnership aims to give people the opportunity to learn more about how to secure their bikes properly and what the Sold Secure brand mark means.
"Members of the public will also be offered a free bike safety check from Dr Bike and free Immobiliser registration from Police Scotland.
"There will be examples of suitable locks, approved locking techniques and also demonstrations of how easy it is to overcome some lock types and how quickly your bike can be stolen."
