Police looking for man after woman's handbag was stolen in Airdrie

Officers in Airdrie are searching for a man after a woman was robbed in Airdrie on Saturday morning.

The 68-year-old was walking in Central Park on Kirkness Street when she was approached from behind and her handbag was stolen.

Police say the man responsible was last seen running along Frew Street, and described him as being around 5ft7ins tall with short, dark coloured hair.

He was wearing white joggers and a green jacket.

Detective Constable Billy Murray said: “Luckily the woman wasn’t injured but she is badly shaken as a result of this robbery.

“I would appeal to anyone in the area who saw anything suspicious or may have seen the suspect running holding the woman’s bag to contact us as soon as possible.”
