Officers were called to a report of a disturbance at a house in Penicuik Way in the Carntyne area of Glasgow at about 4am on Sunday.
Their investigation established that a man in his mid-20s to early 30s suffered a head injury but did not contact emergency services.
Instead, he got into a taxi and was dropped off in Kinsail Drive in the Penilee area.
Officers are keen to speak to the man to ensure he is safe and well and does not need medical attention.
He is described as white, slim, about 5ft 6ins and with short dark hair. He was wearing a black leather bomber-style jacket and dark-coloured jeans.
Detective Constable Jennifer Carey said: "We are in the process of establishing the circumstances of what has happened in the house where the disturbance took place.
"We are also continuing to carry out door-to-door enquiries and check CCTV footage for any additional detail which would assist our investigation.
"We are making every effort to try and trace the injured man, and I'm appealing for him to contact us so that we can be assured he is all right."
Officers have traced the taxi driver.
They have carried out door-to-door inquiries in the Penilee area but have not yet traced the injured man.
