Police investigation launched after armed robbery in Uddingston

Police are appealing for witnesses following an armed robbery in Uddingston on Friday.

A masked man went into the Royal Bank on Thorniewood Road, threatened staff with a knife and made off with a four-figure sum of money. The suspect then made off in a waiting silver Vauxhall Vectra motor vehicle.

Some of the stolen money has now been recovered and the Vauxhall car was found shortly afterwards burnt-out in Commonhead Road, near Easterhouse. Detective Constable Iain Hughes from Wishaw CID said:

''No one was injured during this incident, but the bank staff are extremely shaken by the robbery. The man responsible is described as white, around 5ft 10 inches in height and of slim build with short fair hair. Officers are following a positive line of enquiry at this time and are continuing to carry out enquiries in the Uddingston and Easterhouse area. I would ask anyone with information that may assist our ongoing investigation to contact Wishaw CID through 101. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.''
