Officers are looking into disorder at a football match between Ayr United and Partick Thistle at the weekend.
They were made aware of a large group of people causing disruption on River Street in Ayr around 7.15pm on Friday May 9.
The group later dispersed, and one police officer suffered minor injuries during the incident.
Enquiries are ongoing to trace those involved.
Chief Inspector Stuart Dougan said “A proportionate policing plan was in place for the match and no further issues were identified, but I want to make it clear we have a zero-tolerance approach to disorder such as that seen at River Street.
“Officers acted swiftly in challenging circumstances to deal with what amounted to totally unacceptable behaviour.
“A dedicated team of officers are carrying out enquiries to identify those involved and appropriate action will be taken.”
