Police investigating deliberate fire near Greenock flats

Police in Greenock are investigating after a deliberate fire in the common close of a block of flats in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Emergency services were called to the blaze on Dellingburn Street at around 4.25am on June 30.

No one was injured during the incident, which Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were able to get under control.

Enquiries are ongoing, and public are being appealed to for their help.

Detective Inspector Nicky Beattie said: "Thankfully nobody was injured as a result of this dangerous and reckless act.

“Extensive enquiries are ongoing, and we are keen to trace those responsible.

“I would appeal to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious, or who has any information which may assist us, to get in touch.

"I am also keen to hear anyone with potential private CCTV, dashcam or video doorbell footage."
