Police investigate the attempted murder of a man in Castlemilk

He was attacked in a park around 11.25pm on Friday night.

Police are treating an attack on a man in the Castlemilk area of Glasgow on Friday night as attempted murder.

Around 11.25pm a group of teenagers were within in a playground near to the Jeely Piece Club just off Machrie Drive.

A group of men, wearing balaclavas, then approached the group, chasing the 18 year-old man through the park before seriously assaulting him.

The 18 year-old man was taken to Hairmyres Hospital where medical staff describe his condition as serious but stable.

Detective Sergeant Keith Runcie, Cathcart Police Office, said:

''This attack, which we are treating as attempted murder, has left this young man with very serious injuries.

We believe that the 18 year-old man was the intended target and our officers are currently checking CCTV in the local area as well as making door to door enquiries to try and establish exactly what happened here.

Where were you last night? There are lots of houses which back onto the park from Ballantray Road and Machrie Drive. Did you hear or see anything?

Somebody will know something about this attack and we urge you to come forward with this information so we can trace those responsible.''
