Police Investigate Rape In Uddingston
Detectives say a 20 year old woman who was raped in Uddingston suffered "a horrendous ordeal".
The victim was assaulted on Tuesday evening at around 2215 hrs as she walked home from the town's railway station.
A man approached her from behind and forced her into a wooded area close to Castle Gate.
He left the area in an unknown direction following the assault and the woman immediately contacted police.
The suspect is described as a white man aged 30-50 years, approximately 5'9", wearing dark clothing including a hood.
He is described as having red hair and red facial hair.
Detective Inspector Tom Carty, of the Specialist Crime Division, is appealing for information. He said today: “This was a horrendous ordeal for a young woman to have to experience and it is critical that we trace this man as soon as possible.”
“I would like to reassure the community that our officers are doing everything they can to find the person responsible.
Incidents like this are extremely rare particularly in this area.
However, we need help from members of the public who may have vital information to assist with the investigation.”
“We are looking to speak to anyone who was in the area of Uddingston Train Station, Main St Uddingston, Castle Avenue and Castle Gate between 2115 hours and 2230 hours on Tuesday 24th March 2015.”
“I would urge anyone who was in the surrounding area around that time who may have seen a man matching this description to contact police immediately.”
“Officers are continuing enquiries at the scene, analysing available CCTV footage and conducting door-to-door enquiries. If you have any information which can help trace the man responsible, we ask that you get in contact.”
