Police investigate fatal motorbike crash

The A702 near Elvanfoot was closed for several hours for an investigation.

A man has died after he came off his motorbike near Elvanfoot.

Michael Smith, from Auldgirth in Dumfries and Galloway, was travelling on the southbound side of A702 around 11.05am on Saturday the 12th of May when the incident happened..

Police say he appears to have lost control, causing him to be thrown to the ground. The 51 year old man sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed for several hours as officers conducted enquiries at the scene.

An investigation is underway to establish the exact circumstances of the incident and officers are appealing for anyone who may have been travelling on the road around the time of the incident to contact them with any information.

In particular, if anyone has any dash cam footage, please pass the footage to officers as it could assist in their enquiries.
