A man in his 80s has been left injured after a daylight attack on a Glasgow street.

The pensioner is thought to have been attacked by three men as he walked home from the pub on Saturday.

He was assaulted and robbed near to the Salvation Army Hall on Golspie Street, Govan, at about 5.30pm.

He was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment to injuries to his face.

A fundraising page set up to help restore the victim's confidence met its £500 target within a day.

The site published a photo of his shocking injuries along with the statement: "Willie is an 85-year-old gentleman who has a heart condition and who thankfully survived the shock and pain of a severe assault.

"As you can see from the disturbing photo, he was physically attacked and robbed of money in broad daylight in the town he has lived in all his life.

"I am asking the good people who read this to help with anything they can to enable Willie to go some way to restore his faith in the human race.

"I hope that this can go a small way to let him know that people do care and want to help him.

"In turn, I hope this can help him to restore his confidence to be able to continue to go about his business without any fear.''
