James Bradley, was last seen by his wife at their home at about 3.30am on Friday.
She contacted police around four hours later after waking to discover that he was no longer in the property and that his car was also missing.
His locked vehicle, a silver Vauxhall Astra, was found by officers later that day, parked at the back of Greenock's Customhouse building at Customhouse Quay.
Police Scotland said his body was found on the shore close to Rosneath caravan park at around 9.45am yesterday.
A spokesman said: The man has now been identified as James Bradley and his family are aware.
A post-mortem examination will be carried out to establish the exact cause of death, however the death is not being treated as suspicious.''
A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
