Police Divers Join Fisherman Search In Loch Lomond

Police divers have joined the search for a missing fisherman in Loch Lomond.

Joe Brown, 66, had been camping and fishing around Pilot Bay on the loch and was last seen leaving the Oak Tree Pub in Balmaha at around 10.30pm on Friday.

At around 11am on Saturday, another fisherman found Mr Brown's boat beached on rocks near Pilot Bay with no-one inside.

Police were called and no trace of him has been found at his camp site.

Officers are trying to establish if Mr Brown used his boat to get from the pub to his camp site on Friday night or if he went out on it on Saturday morning.

Police divers have been brought in to help in the search, which also includes search and rescue dogs, the Police Scotland helicopter and a mountain rescue team.

Officers have also renewed appeals for any witnesses who may have seen Mr Brown over the weekend.

Mr Brown is white and 6ft tall and was wearing a beige fishing jacket, blue shirt and green jumper when he was last seen.

Inspector Martin Rutland of Police Scotland said: "An extensive and robust search is under way in an effort to find Joe.

"At present we are still trying to establish if Joe took his boat back to the campsite after leaving the pub on Friday or whether he went out on the water earlier on Saturday morning.

"His family are extremely distressed by his sudden disappearance and I would again appeal to anyone who saw Joe or who has information that can assist with our ongoing inquiry to please contact police on 101 or speak to any officer.''
