It’s emerged that a Scottish man was among those killed by an explosion at a petrol station in the Republic of Ireland.

Forty-nine-year-old Martin McGill, who grew up in Kirkintilloch, sadly lost his life in the disaster in the County Donegal village of Creeslough on Friday.

The Garda confirmed his identity along with the nine other victims.

The Irish Police firm said all those killed were locals who lived in the village or its surrounding areas.

It is reported that Martin was an “avid” Celtic fan who moved to Creeslough to care for his elderly parents.

His funeral service will take place tomorrow.

Celtic FC have confirmed that a period of silence will be held ahead of their match against RB Leipzig tomorrow in memory of all those who lost their life in the explosion.

The victims ranged from age five to 59.

Police said they were: James O Flaherty, 48, Jessica Gallagher, 24 , Catherine O Donnell, 39 years and her son, James Monaghan, 13, Hugh Kelly, 59, Martina Martin, 49 , Robert Garwe, 50 years and his daughter, Shauna Flanagan Garwe, 5, and Leona Harper, 14 years.

A local priest said the enormity of the tragedy is “dawning on people” ahead of the first funerals tomorrow.

Father John Joe Duffy said people are “full of grief”, adding that the initial numbness, shock and adrenaline "is beginning to wear off".
