The Police Investigations & Review Commissioner (Pirc) is undertaking the inquiry after the body of the 65-year-old was found at a house in the city on February 24.
It will focus on calls Police Scotland received about the woman on the same day and the response from officers.
A Pirc spokesman said: "The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) has instructed the Police Investigations & Review Commissioner (Pirc) to undertake an investigation after the body of a 65-year-old woman was discovered at a residential property in Glasgow on February 24.
"The investigation will focus on the response from Police Scotland to telephone calls received by them about the woman on February 24.
