Police believe body found in woods in missing man Robert Thomson

The 18-year-old, from Bellshill, was reported missing by his family on Sunday June 5 having last been seen two days earlier.

The body of a man found in woods is believed to be a teenager who went missing a week ago. Police said the body found in Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, on Thursday afternoon is believed to be missing 18-year-old Robert Thomson. Mr Thomson, from Bellshill, was reported missing by his family on Sunday June 5 having last been seen two days earlier.

A Police Scotland spokesman said officers were called to a report of a body being discovered in a woods near Kilbrennan Drive, Motherwell, at 3.15pm on Thursday.

He added: "The body has not been formally identified, however it is believed to be that of missing man Robert Thomson from Bellshill. Relatives are aware.

"A post-mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the exact cause of death, which is not being treated as suspicious at this time.

"A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.''
