Police appeal after vehicles set on fire in separate incidents in north of Glasgow

Several cars and a camper van were targeted in the early hours of Tuesday morning

Three vehicles have been destroyed after they were deliberately set on fire outside a house in the north of Glasgow.

Two cars and a campervan were targeted on Ashgill Road in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Neighbours evacuated as a precaution

Nearby homes had to be evacuated as a precaution while fire crews tackled the blaze.

Detective Inspector Graham McCreadie of Maryhill Police Station said: “Fortunately no one was injured as a result of this fire, however this was a reckless and deliberate act and we are urging anyone with information that may assist our ongoing investigation to contact us.

“We have been carrying out enquiries and gathering CCTV from the local area to gather more information on the circumstances surrounding this incident and to trace those responsible.

“Anyone with information should contact Maryhill Police Station through 101 with reference number 0267 of 22 June. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.”

Similar incident in the area shortly beforehand

It follows a similar incidents in Maryhill just hours earlier when a car was set on fire on Hugo Close.

Two men approached the driveway of a house on the street at around 12.40am on Tuesday and set a Volkswagen Golf on fire. The vehicle suffered extensive damage and a car parked next to it was also damaged.

Detective Constable Holly Canning said: “Luckily no-one was injured during this incident and our investigation is continuing to establish more details. We have been carrying out enquiries and checking local CCTV for more information on the two men responsible for setting this fire. They were both wearing grey hooded tops and I would appeal to anyone who saw them acting suspiciously in the area to contact us.
