The front of a shop in Wishaw's been badly damaged after a van was deliberately rammed into it in the early hours.

The Premier Stores on Rannoch Drive, Pather was targeted at around 0315 hrs this morning.

Detectives say they are treating it as an attempted housebreaking.

Police are not certain whether the occupants of the van were able to get into the shop, however, significant damage was caused to the shop front.

Detective Inspector Kenny Dalrymple, of Wishaw CID, says:

"Our enquiries are at a very early stage, however, I would like to appeal for information and witnesses to the incident.

"We are treating it as an attempted housebreaking at this time, and we are currently trying to establish the circumstances and whether any items have been stolen. We're currently accessing CCTV and carrying out door to door enquiries in the local area.

"Given the significant damage which has been caused, and the fact that the store is very close to residential promises, I am hopeful that there may be witnesses to the incident. The impact would have caused a commotion and given it was the middle of the night I would expect peope nearby to have heard the impact.

"I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, and can give us more information that may be able to help with our enquiries."
