A man has been seriously assaulted on a footpath in Hamilton.

The 36-year-old was walking on the path at the junction of Hillside Crescent and Hillside Lane between 8 and 9pm on Saturday when he was approached by a man and attacked.

The victim was taken to Wishaw General Hospital where he is receiving treatment for serious facial injuries.

The suspect is white, in his 30s and was wearing dark coloured clothing.

Officers have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries and will be checking CCTV from in and around surrounding streets for any further information which could assist police enquiries.

Detective Constable Andrew Sinclair said: “I am appealing to nearby residents to think back and consider if they saw or heard anything which could assist the investigation. In particular, I would ask motorists who were in the area to check their dash cams as it’s possible an image of the suspect may have been captured. Any small piece of information could prove vital, so please do call us.”
