Police appeal for information after serious crash on A749 in East Kilbride

The crash happened yesterday morning.

Police are appealing for information following a serious crash on the A749 in East Kilbride.

The two-vehicle crash happened on Glasgow Road at the junction with Cairnmuir Road at around 9.30am yesterday morning.

The 81-year-old female driver of a black Volkswagen Polo was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow with serious injuries.

Meanwhile, the 23-year-old male driver was taken to Hairmyres Hospital, East Kilbride with minor injuries and was later discharged.

The road reopened at around 6.30pm.

Sergeant Craig McDonald said: “Our enquiries into the crash are ongoing and I would urge anyone with information to come forward.

“We would be particularly keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the crash who have not yet spoken to the police or who may have dashcam footage.

“Anyone with information can call 101, quoting incident 0710 of Friday, 23 September.”
