Police appeal after crash near Strathaven claims the life of pensioner

It happened on the B743 on Sunday afternoon

Police are appealing for anyone who saw a fatal crash near Strathaven at the weekend to come forward.

A 74-year-old died at the scene after the Mazda he was driving collided with a Vauxhall Antara at the crossroad junction of the B743 and the Roman Road.

The 32 year old man behind the wheel of the Vauxhall Antara car sustained minor injuries, following the incident at around 1.30pm on Sunday August 13.

He was taken by ambulance to Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride, where he was treated overnight and has since been released.

Sergeant Craig McDonald said: “I would appeal for any witnesses to the collision that have not already come forward, or anyone with information relating to the incident, to contact Road Policing officers at Motherwell."
