Police enquiries are continuing after a man was assaulted in Cumbernauld in the early hours of this morning.

The 23-year-old man was waiting in the car park of the Woodcutters Inn on Hazel Road, Cumbernauld shortly after midnight when a white Ford Transit van pulled up beside him. A man got out of the van and stabbed and assaulted him before driving off.

The 23-year-old man was found by other people coming out of the bar and they alerted emergency services. The injured man was taken by ambulance to Monklands District General Hospital where he is currently being treated for his injuries. Hospital staff describe his condition as stable.

Detective Constable Scott McCracken at Cumbernauld CID said:

“This was a very violent attack and at this time would appear to be without a motive.

“I’d like to speak to anyone who may have seen the van in the vicinity of the area either before this attack took place or leaving the carpark afterwards.”
