People in North Lanarkshire have started a petition to save the Sir Matt Busby Sports Complex in Bellshill.

Earlier this month the council's leader Jim Logue warned leisure facilities are at risk because of increased running costs and decreased funding.

Mary Louise Russell has started a petition to save the venue and told Clyde 1: "It would be absolutely devastating if this facility was to close.

"Lots of people use it and it helps them with their physical and mental health.

"There are five swimming pools at risk of closure across North Lanarkshire and it is very worrying for all of us.

"I am pleased so many people have signed this petition and it demonstrates the need and the importance of this complex in the community."
