Police say a black Mazda CX-3 car was travelling southbound on the M74 and appeared to lose control as it exited the motorway onto the slip road (Junction 9) yesterday morning.
Emergency services attended and the driver of the car, an 81 year old man, was taken to Wishaw General Hospital. Medical staff describe his condition as serious. The slip road was closed for several hours as crash scene investigators examined the scene. Enquiries are continuing to establish the cause of the crash and Road Policing Officers are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact them at Motherwell Police Office on 101.
