Pensioner dies in Anniesland blaze

A pensioner's died after a flat fire in Anniesland.
Emergency crews were called to Ascot Court just before 7 last night.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called to a report of a fire at a property on Ascot Court, Glasgow, around 6.50pm on Thursday, 30 November, 2023.
"Emergency services attended and a 71-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“His next of kin are aware.
"A joint investigation was carried out with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and it is not being treated as wilful.”
The 71-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene and his next of kin have been informed.
Area Commander David Murdoch is the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s local senior officer for the City of Glasgow.
He said: “We were alerted at 6.21pm on Thursday, 30 November to reports of a dwelling fire on Ascot Court, Anniesland.
"Operations Control mobilised three fire appliances and one high reach appliance to the scene where firefighters extinguished a fire affecting a ground floor flat.
“Sadly, one male casualty passed away at the scene.
“Our thoughts are very much with his family, friends and all of those affected at this difficult time.
"A joint investigation between SFRS and Police Scotland is ongoing." Ends
