Pensioner dies in crash between Christmas and New Year in Johnstone

Eighty-five year-old John Allan died in hospital on New Year's Eve.

An 85-year-old man has died after a crash on Beith Road in Johnstone between Christmas and New Year.

It took place around 8.30am on Sunday December 29 and involved a red Toyota Corolla and a pedestrian.

John Allan was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where he died on New Year's Eve.

Sergeant Paul Mellis of the Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts remain with John’s family and friends at this very difficult time.

“Enquiries into the crash are continuing. I would appeal to anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact us through 101 quoting incident number 0814 of 29 December, 2024.”
