Pensioner, 75, dies after car overturns near Glasgow's Silverburn

A pensioner has died after the car he was driving overturned near a shopping centre in Glasgow's Southside.

The crash took place near Silverburn Shopping Centre in Pollok at around midday on Saturday.

A silver Land Rover Defender was being driven west on Cowglen Road when it overturned near the junction with Peat Road.

Emergency services attended and a 75-year-old man, the driver of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

An 18-year-old woman, a passenger, was taken to hospital for treatment for a hand injury.

Both Cowglen Road and Peat Road were closed while crash investigation work was carried out and were reopened at around 3.55pm.

Sergeant Christopher Hoggans, of the Road Policing Department, said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who died and our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“There were a number of people around as it was a busy Saturday afternoon and I am appealing to anyone who saw what happened who has not yet spoken to officers to get in touch.

“In addition I am asking anyone with dash-cam footage that could assist with our enquiries to also get in touch.”
