Pensioner who died after being hit by car in Strathaven named by police

Officers have named the elderly man who died after being hit by a car in Strathaven.

78-year-old Donald McPhail McKillop was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash near Lesmahagow Road around 7pm on Tuesday.

A 67-year-old man was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Wishaw for treatment.

A 61-year-old woman was arrested in connection with the incident but released pending further enquiries.

Sergeant Roy McCarney, West Road Policing Unit, said:

“Our thoughts are with Donald’s family and friends at this difficult time. Our enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing and officers will continue to offer support to those involved.”
