Pensioner in critical condition after attack in Glasgow City Centre
A 77 year old man was targeted in an unprovoked attack on 23 March 2018.
The elderly man was walking on Bath Street close to Wellington Street when he was seriously assaulted by another man at 9.45pm.
The victim was taken, by ambulance, to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he is being treated for a serious head injury. Hospital staff describe his condition as critical.
The suspect is described as around 6 ft. tall, wearing a grey three-quarter length coat with a white shirt, brown shoes and facial stubble. He was last seen on Sauchiehall Street at West Campbell Street.
Enquiries carried out so far have revealed that prior to the attack, the suspect was seen in the company of a woman. She has blonde hair, has a medium build and was wearing a long brown coat, a leopard print top and carrying brown handbag.
It’s believed the attack on the elderly gentlemen occurred after the man and woman parted company and the suspect headed up Bath Street.
Officers continue to gather CCTV footage from in and around the area for any additional information regarding the suspect and continue to appeal for any information.
Detective Inspector Peter Sharp said:
'To carry out an unprovoked attack on an elderly man is despicable and cowardly. This assault has left a 77 year-old man in a critical condition and a family traumatised by what has happened. It’s imperative we trace the man responsible.
'I would like to the thank members of the public who have already contacted us with information, however, we know there were other people in the area who have yet to speak to us and I would urge them to get in touch. We all have the right to go about our daily business without being subjected to violent acts.'
