Pensioner attacked on Paisley bus

A 65-year-old man has been attacked after coming to the aid of a bus driver being abused by passengers.

A pensioner has been attacked after coming to the aid of a bus driver being abused by passengers.

The victim told two men and a woman who were shouting at the bus driver in Paisley, Renfrewshire, to leave him alone and the group turned on him.

One of the men and the woman assaulted him, leaving him with a head wound which required hospital treatment.

The attacked happened in the Foxbar area at about 7.40pm on Tuesday.

Detective Constable Elaine Malcolm, of Paisley CID, said: "The man was on a No 61 McGill's bus heading to Foxbar from Paisley town centre when the bus made an emergency stop close to the Londis store in Brediland Road, near to Foxbar Road, Foxbar.

"The two men and the woman took exception to what happened and remonstrated with the driver.

"The 65-year-old man intervened, asking them to leave him alone, but all three turned on him shouting and abusing him before one of the men and the woman assaulted him. They then got off the bus and made off towards Foxbar Road.

"The injured man was taken by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, where he received stitches to a head wound.

"He's now home and thankfully okay, however this was a very frightening experience for him.''

The two male suspects are both white, 5ft 5ins to 5ft 7ins and stocky.

One is said to be aged between 30 and 40 and was wearing a beige jacket and a baseball cap. The other has a shaven head and was wearing a dark jacket and a stripy jumper.

The female suspect is white, aged between 30 and 40, 5ft 5ins to 5ft 7ins and of heavy build.

She was wearing a dark jacket with a fur collar and has very long brown hair tied up in a ponytail.

Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them.
