A woman’s died after being hit by a car in North Lanarkshire.

The 57-year-old was on Brambling Road in Coatbridge around 5.20pm last night when she was struck by a black Vauxhall Corsa.

Emergency services scrambled to the scene and the female was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where she later died.

The driver of the Corsa was not injured.

The road was closed for around seven hours while investigations were carried out.

Sergeant Gemma Blackadder said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who died at this very difficult time.

“Enquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing and we are appealing for anyone with information that could assist to please get in touch.

“I would also urge anyone in the area with dash-cam or ring doorbell to check their footage and pass anything of note on to us.”
